- In 2016, the Heights Neighbourhood Association decided to recognize the 100th anniversary of Gilmore Avenue School. The Association partnered with filmmaker and producer, Yunuen Perez Vertti to create a film featuring historic photographs and interviews with students from decades past. The premier screening of the film was held at Gilmore Community School on Friday May 13, 2016. The film was later screened at Burnaby's McGill Public Library on January 17, 2017 where community members were invited to share their own memories of the school in front of the audience. Some of these memories were captured on film by Yunuen Perez Vertti and donated with permissions to Burnaby Village Museum.

- Alice (nee Lowry) (1879-1954) and Percy Mallett (1882-1955) were married in Vancouver, British Columbia on January 26, 1910. Alice Lowry was born in Kinnear’s Mills, Quebec and Percy Mallett was born in Cornwall, England. Alice and Percy had four children Percival “Perc” (1916-1971), Alan (1919-2006), Dorothy (1923-2016) and a son who died in infancy. Alice and Percy resided in Vancouver until 1914. In 1915, they moved to 3965 Cambridge Street in Burnaby and lived there with their three children until 1934. The Mallett family lived at various other locations in Burnaby including 4119 East Hastings (1935-1937), 4075 Triumph Street (1938-1949) and 4211 Oxford Street (1950-1954). All three children attended Gilmore Avenue School and North Burnaby High School. After graduating from North Burnaby High School, Dorothy Mallett worked at B.C. Telephone and B.C. Electric in downtown Vancouver. Dorothy attended University of British Columbia for one year with her earnings from these jobs. While working at B.C. Electric, Dorothy met her future husband, Charles McDonald "Mac" Atkinson. In 1949, Dorothy Mallett married Charles McDonald “Mac” Atkinson at Willingdon Heights United Church in Burnaby with Dorothy’s brother, Reverend Percival Mallett officiating. In 1965, Dorothy and Mac moved to Nanaimo. Dorothy taught piano and was an accomplished singer and musician performing in various recitals. Dorothy died in 2016 and her husband Mac Atkinson died in 2012.

- History
- William Ewart “Bill” Grieve was born at Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan (then the North-West Territories), on August 15, 1885. He was the eldest child of John and Flora Grieve. Bill attended school at Qu’Appelle until he was 12 years old and went to work at a furniture store. In October of 1902, at the age of 17, he moved to the Okanagan and worked on a Kettle Valley Railroad construction camp for four years. Bill enlisted at Kamloops in 1915 and served overseas as a member of the 72nd Seaforth Battalion. He was wounded at the Battle of Lens in August of 1917 and was invalided home in November of 1917. On April 14, 1920, William Ewart “Bill” Grieve married Christine. Bill’s ill health sent them to California for a year but by April of 1923, they had returned to Canada and bought a house at 3925 Triumph Street in North Burnaby. Bill worked as manager of the Used Car Department of Johnston Motors Ltd in Vancouver for the next twenty years. He retired in 1946 and opened his own used car business at 4507 East Hastings Street, Burnaby. Christine Grieve was a life-long member of the Women’s Missionary Society of the United Church of Canada. Christine and Bill had two sons, Kenneth Ewart “Ken” and William Ronald “Ronald.” Ken was born about 1922. By 1928, he was in grade three at Gilmore Avenue School and by 1948, he was at the University of British Columbia. Ken died prior to March of 2006. Ronald was born about 1929 and was 13 years old during World War II. Like his older brother before him, he attended the University of British Columbia. He later married and had children, one of whom was Catherine E. “Cathy” Grieve (later Linowski). Ronald died April 7, 1970, at the age of 41. Bill served as president of the North Burnaby Liberal Association for four years and was liberal candidate for the Burnaby Provincial riding at the General Election in 1937. He also served on the Burnaby School Board from 1943 to 1957 consecutively. Bill died April 1, 1969 at the age of 83.

- Margaret “Margie” Norton (nee Knight) (1912-2010) is a daughter of Ernest Richard Knight (born 1877 in Burstow, Surrey, England) and Louise Augusta Knight (nee Ellis) (born in 1882 in South Horsham, England). Ernest Knight and Louise Ellis married in Vancouver in May 1908 at Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver. Ernest and Louise had five children; Naida (Hansen), Margaret (Norton), Frederick "Fred", Lila (McKinley) and Dolly (Walker-Kirkwood). Margaret and Frederick were twins. Sometime in the 1920s, Ernest Knight left his wife and family and moved to Australia. After Ernest left, Louise Knight lived common law with her partner Charles Roberts. Louise and Charles had one son, Charles Thomas "Bob" Roberts. The Knight-Roberts family home was located at 931 Gilmore Avenue in Burnaby. The house was relocated to this address from the forty hundred block of Georgia Street sometime in the mid 1920s. Louise Knight-Roberts (nee Ellis) lived at 931 Gilmore Avenue in Burnaby until her death in 1950. Charles Roberts died in 1956. Margaret and her siblings attended Gilmore Avenue School until Kitchener School was completed. She was the first May Queen at Kitchener School. Margaret Knight and her twin brother Fred were among the first graduating class of Kitchener School in 1925. Margaret married John Leonard “Jack” Norton in 1947 at Vancouver Heights United Church. Margaret worked at a factory making bags for Bonar and Bemis until she married Jack. Jack worked as a stationery engineer for Nelson's Laundry. Margaret and Jack lived at the former Knight-Roberts home at 931 Gilmore Avenue. Margaret and Jack had two children, Darlene and Rey. Margaret Knight was a lifetime Burnaby resident residing at 931 Gilmore Avenue until her death at 98 yrs in 2010. Her husband Jack died in 1990.

- History
- Norm Henderson came from Saskatchewan to Burnaby with his parents in December of 1940 to visit his grandmothers. Norm and his parents stayed on and bought the Old Orchard Auto Park on the corner of Kingsway and Willingdon Avenue, which they ran until 1944. Norm attended Burnaby South High School from 1941 to 1947, during which time he was involved in the production of the Burnaby School Board film, “Investment in Youth." In 1945, Norm got a part-time job at Woodward’s Department Store in Vancouver where he worked until he went into teacher training at Vancouver Normal School in the early 1950s. Kathleen MacFarlane (later Henderson) was born in 1929 and grew up in Vancouver. Kathleen also went through teacher training at Vancouver Normal School. Norm and Kathleen (MacFarlane) Henderson were married in 1953 and moved to a small suite at Patterson Avenue and Kingsway. Norm was a teacher at Gilmore Avenue School and Kathleen taught at Nelson Avenue Elementary School. Norm was a member of West Burnaby United Church from 1941 until he and Kathleen moved to Richmond in 1959.

- Walter "Wally" William Westerman was born in London, Ontario in 1916. A few years later he moved with his parents to Vancouver. Around 1921 his parents, Albert Edwin and Louisa (nee Williams) Westerman bought a double lot at 4797 Georgia Street in District Lot 122 in Burnaby. On the lot they built a house and bowling green. Wally's father Albert worked as a proof reader for the Daily Province newspaper and retired in 1938. Walter attended Gilmore Avenue school and North Burnaby High School. After graduating from highschool he enrolled in engineering school in Glendale, California. Wally was married to Margot Florence Patry from 1943 to 1952. When World War II began, Wally joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. Wally suffered from arthritis and after being declared unfit for combat he was discharged. He returned to Burnaby and became a foreman in the engineering department of Boeing Aircraft of Canada. In 1944, while employed by Boeing, Wally was recoginized with awards for his ingenuity of "Jig Design for Bomb Torpedo Adaptors" and "Bomb Release Scissors". When Wally's father Albert became ill and had to have his leg amputated, Wally attended to his needs and sold the family's Georgia Street house to a buy a house at 5277 Spencer Street in Vancouver. Wally's father died in 1944 and his mother died in 1966. Following his first marriage, Wally met Gwendolyn "Gwen" Brocklesby and they developed a long term relationship eventually marrying in 1969. Gwen had a daughter named Barbara from her first marriage and Wally became her step father. Between 1960 and 1963, Wally was admitted to membership in the Canadian Power Squadrons with qualifications in seamanship, engine maintenance and weather and Gwen was awarded a certificate of qualification in piloting and seamanship. In 1969 Gwen, Wally and Barbara moved to a brand new home at 2171 Duthie Avenue in Burnaby which was within walking distance to Lenkurt Electric on Lougheed Highway where Wally worked. Wally was a machinist and foreman of the sheet metal shop at Lenkurt and later at Microtel. Walter Westerman died in Burnaby in 2000 and his wife Gwen died in Burnaby in 2016.
