In Ward 4 on April 17,1930, while Foreman Gates and
his men were tending to a fire at Springer Avenue
and Broadway, the fire spread around and behind
them, destroying a coat, two sweater coats and two
full lunch kits belonging to his men who thereby lost
$18.50 worth of food
