- Object History
- Publication "Commodities Catalogue", was part of a scrapbook created by Cecil Chue Kan Lee documenting the time he was employed as a Prodcue Buyer for Kelly Douglas and Company Limited and Western Commodities Limited in the 1970s and early 1980s. As a produce buyer for Kelly Douglas, Cecil Lee worked closely with local farmers along Marine Drive and in the Fraser Valley. The Burnaby company was one of the largest food distributors in Canada. In the mid-1970s, Lee was asked to oversee the import of Chinese mandarin oranges into Canada. Until that time, mandarin oranges had come from Japan and were sold in the winter, especially at Christmas. When the Japanese market could no longer keep up with demand, Kelly Douglas looked to China. The company relied on Lee’s cultural knowledge to build this very profitable part of their business.

- Rectangular, wood crate with lid. Hand painted label on one side, with illustrations of plants and some text in Chinese. Original paper label on another side, with text in English. The crate has many scrapes and dents.

- This item originates from the Chinese Herbalist Store "Way Sang Yuen Wat Kee & Co.", Victoria, B.C. This could posssibly be the packaging for the tea leaf that were used to prepare Shen Nong tea or it could be the tea that the shop owner/staff prepared for their own consumption. The same shop listed on the label is still operating in Hong Kong (as of 2018) at the same location.

- The label on the front of the box has product informtion in English: "Pang Yu Tai Lung Kee / No. 113 Bonham Street / Victoria. Hong Kong." Below this is more information on the tea. The side of the box has a painted design of flowers with a red box in the middles. The outline is in black, the top is rounded. Inside there are black Chinese characters. Text literally translates to English as: "a surname", "abundant, plentiful", "peaceful, most, safe, grand", "grand, intense, swell, thriving, sweet" and "remember, record". Chinese characters reveal the name of the pharmacist, Peng Yu Tai Long. It is written on the box that the effects of the tea are "removing sunstrokes and fevers and when taken after meals it would increase the power of ingestion".

Text literally translates to English as: "red, bonus. dividend", "drop. fall, decend surrender, capitulate" and "incense, appetizing, fragrant". This has been adjusted for English comprehension to:: "rosewood". Uses: Rosewood is a type of tree that grows about 10-15 meters tall. It can be found mostly in Hainan, China. It can be used to help stop bleeding and relieve pain. It's also used in the treatment of vomiting of blood, hemoptysis, bruises, rheumatism, lower back pain and heart disease.

The exam subject was on English Literature and two hours were allowed for completion. There are two main questions, one based on the Fourth Reader with five related questions. The second section is based on various poems. The exam page measures 18.5cm x 31cm.

- The field hockey stick is made of ash. It has a fairly flat curve on the blade. It is round at the handle and gradually flattens and curves towards the blade of the stick. The blade is flat on one side and rounded at the back. The handle is leather wrapped for 27 cm. and then it is string wrapped for 31 cm. Overall length is 90 cm. Single sheet, double sided flyer distributed by the Vancouver Sath advertising an event discussing the communication gap between First and Second Generation Indo-Canadians. The event was held on Sunday, May 13 1990 at the East Richmond Community Centre in Richmond.
