The Buxton house remains a heritage landmark in Burnaby to this day. Leopold enlisted in the Canadian Infantry BC Regiment 7th Battlion during World War One. He died on April 24, 1915 and is buried at the Menin Gates (Ypres) memorial Belgium.

Do you go to school yet? Your papa will see on the card who took these. The little girl where the cross is, is the one that saved me from drowning last summer. I am partial to her. Come and see me soon. From your friend, Olive."
