- A large box containing a audio-amp, a wooden triangular prism with a decorative round speaker, and six smaller rectangular boxes. All are made of a light wood, and have different functions.
- Object History
- This audio-amplifier set was used by Mr. Edward A. Fountain, who was appointed as Civil Defense Coordinator on May 5th, 1952. He also built the wooden boxes which contain each part of the set. The Burnaby Civil Defense Department was established in order to disseminate information guiding the public on how to react in response to the impending threat of nuclear war and Russian bombers. In the early 1950’s, this education centered primarily on evacuation, as members of the public were expected to prepare and essentially fend for themselves in the event of a nuclear attack. These pieces of audio technology are believed to have been used at Civil Defense rallies in Burnaby, which Edward Fountain would have been involved in as the department director. According to Burnaby City Council meeting records, music and defense operation demonstrations were commonplace at such rallies, and are examples of what this set was used for.

- Object History
- Item was part of a scrapbook created by Cecil Chue Kan Lee documenting the time he was employed as a Prodcue Buyer for Kelly Douglas and Company Limited and Western Commodities Limited in the 1970s and early 1980s. As a produce buyer for Kelly Douglas, Cecil Lee worked closely with local farmers along Marine Drive and in the Fraser Valley. The Burnaby company was one of the largest food distributors in Canada. In the mid-1970s, Lee was asked to oversee the import of Chinese mandarin oranges into Canada. Until that time, mandarin oranges had come from Japan and were sold in the winter, especially at Christmas. When the Japanese market could no longer keep up with demand, Kelly Douglas looked to China. The company relied on Lee’s cultural knowledge to build this very profitable part of their business.

- Paper listing several radio signals used by the Civil Defense department. Paper is creased and yellowing especially around edges and folds.
- Object History
- This “Ten – Signals” paper was donated alongside the audio-amplification set, belonging to Mr. Edward Fountain. The signals represented on the paper were used in training volunteers in the Burnaby Civil Defence Department, of which Mr. Fountain was named Director/ Coordinator in 1952. The Burnaby Civil Defense Department was established in order to disseminate information guiding the public on how to react in response to the impending threat of nuclear war and Russian bombers. In the early 1950’s, this education centered primarily on evacuation, as members of the public were expected to prepare and essentially fend for themselves in the event of a nuclear attack. Training took place throughout the City of Burnaby and in the surrounding regions, as the Civil Defence departments of several municipalities (namely the City of Vancouver and the City of New Westminster) partnered together in evacuation and recovery training, where the use of instructional training papers such as this would come into play.

- Flying Officer Roy MacGregor and Pilot Officer Gordon MacGregor were the only members of the congregation of the Vancouver Heights Presbyterian Church to be killed in service during World War II. In memory of the brothers, the church and family sponsored two stained glass windows that were installed in the church in 1947. The windows feature the symbol of the Royal Air Force (also used by other Commonwealth air forces) and the motto per ardua ad astra which means "through adversity to the stars."

- This is a black t-shirt with the words "This Is Our Shot" printed on the front in red and white. Next to the slogan is an "X" formed by two band-aids with a Canadian maple leaf in the centre. The logo is also on the right shoulder of the shirt.
- Object History
- This shirt was worn by community leaders throughout Burnaby and the country in a national campaign for vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic. This campaign was shared on television and online under the #TogetherAgain hashtag, with images of vaccine recipients and their reasons for getting vaccinated against coronavirus written on the bandaid. In Burnaby, this shirt was distributed by several medical groups. This particular shirt was given to the Burnaby Public Library by the Burnaby Division of Family Practice. The doctors working within this division were very active on social media, sharing images of themselves wearing the shirts and information regarding the #TogetherAgain campaign. Local politicians also shared information and images of themselves supporting the campaign, including Katrina Chen, the MLA for Burnaby-Lougheed.

- Object History
- The Bell's Dry Goods building was built in 1922 by Clifford Tuckey with a small lean to structure on the back housing a kitchen and bedroom. The building was located on the northwest corner of Sixth Street and Thirteenth Avenue in Burnaby. William Bell (1884-1952) and Flora Bell (nee Connell) (1889-1953) immigrated to Burnaby from Scotland between 1917 and 1918. In about 1924, the building was purchased by William and Flora Bell. Flora operated "Bell's Dry Goods" store out of the building and the couple lived at the back of the store. William worked as a driver for a local lumber mill. Bell's Dry Goods was in operation in this one storey building between 1925 and 1937 with the building address, 1314 Sixth Street (later 7695 Sixth Street). In 1927, they moved to a house located on Thirteenth Avenue while they converted the back of the store to include the East Burnaby Post Office. In 1937, the Bells moved the one storey "Bell's Dry Goods" building a little further north and built a two storey building on the corner. Flora continued to operate Bell's Dry Goods on the ground level of the new building until 1941 and the couple lived upstairs. The new two storey building assumed the address of 1314 Sixth Street (later 7695 Sixth Street) and the older one storey building obtained a new address of 1316 Sixth Street (later 7685 Sixth Street). The East Burnaby Post Office continued to operate at 1314 Sixth Street until about 1954. On December 1, 1937, Maurice Whitechurch moved his Whitechurch Hardware store into the one storey building which he rented out from the Bells. In 1943, Maurice Whitechurch purchased the building from the Bells and Whitechurch Hardware store continued to operated at this location until the Spring of 1973. In June 1973, Mr. Fergie Will bought the store and the building was donated to Heritage Village (Burnaby Village Museum). In August 1974, the building was relocated to Heritage Village and opened as a carpentry shop exhibit in 1975. The building underwent several repairs and restorations over the years. After it was moved to Heritage Village, a lean to was built on the back of the building by museum staff. The lean to was demolished between 1993 and 1994 after the building was put on a new foundation. In 1995, it underwent a series of structural repairs to restore it to Bell's Dry Goods store, opening on August 6, 1996.

- The Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada is a non-profit charitable organization created for the purposes of home care and social services established in 1898 to perpetuate the memory of Victoria the Good. The Burnaby Branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) was established in 1912 with Miss Colhoun as its first nurse. Florence Hart was born in 1898 in New Westminster, and moved to Burnaby when she was 13. Her family lived in what is now known as Hart House. Both Florence and her husband Harold Godwin were awarded life memberships from the VON (Victorian Order of Nurses) for more than half a century of service. - Object History
- Whistle belonged to Dorothy Pitman who was a Girl Guide in the 1st Burnaby Company. She was known to be involved with guiding from 1919 to 1931. Textual records and photographs of the Pitman family, including one of Dorothy and her sister Gwen, are held by the City of Burnaby Archives. Dorothy and Gwen's parents, Ernest and Jean Pitman, owned McKay Dry Goods and Jubilee Dry Goods.

- The number "7651" are stenciled out across the panel, surrounded by gray paint. The panel itself is a diagonal rectangle (parallelogram) shaped sign. There are four screws, one in each corner, with two rusting screws still intact in both the bottom right and left corner. The reverse of the panel is yellowed, and was also painted gray.
- Object History
- Panel was found in the attic of Love Farmhouse August 2021, where it had been since the farmhouse restoration project in the late 1990's. This panel was an original fixture on the home.
