- Wedding dress, c.1911. Made entirely of white alencon lace. High collar with celluloid stays, floor length full skirt, and three quarter length raglan sleeves. The high collar with three celluloid stays is topped with a ruffled butterfly lace. Below this, the regular pattern for the rest of the bodice is used: two types of floral, and rows of tiny pin tucks. This continues horizontally through the triangular yoke in front and back; two panels on the front and two on the back angle from the shoulders to the waist, where they overlap and form part of the closure on the back. The hook and eye closure begins at the top of the collar and continues to just below the hips, with extra closures to hold the cross-over lace in place. The sleeves are raglan, cut in one piece with the bodice. At the cuffs, there is an insertion of vertically pin tucked lace net, bordered by the same lace that tops the collar. That lace also forms the waistband in two rows. Below it the skirt of lace net is heavily gathered in three rows of shirring. It flares out from there, and at about knee level it ends with three more rows of shirring. The lace below this returns to the type seen on the bodice, without the pin tucks. It is gathered to the net layer, and a band of the butterfly lace hangs over the gathers.

- Belonged to the mother of Mrs.F.Nimo (donor), Mrs.W.Ford. She married July 6th 1911 in Nut Mountain, Saskatoon. They moved out to live in the Burnaby area, Marine & Royal Oak.

- Dress with coat. c.1930. Brown china silk. Brown and yellow embroidered flowers. The coat and dress are attached. Long sleeves, sash tie collar, button trim. The 'coat' has a roll collar that falls in a deep V neck, and extends into long sashes that tie at the V point. The armholes have a corded binding. Jacket is actually sleeveless, and the sleeves attach instead to the dress beneath. They are quite loose, with a seam at the elbow. From this point to the wrist, there is a split in each sleeve. The slits are tacked back together at the wrists. A few inches below the sash tie, there is a seam in the jacket at the natural waistline. A belt is tacked to the sides and closes in the centre front with snaps. The centre front of the jacket is left out, and along the inside edge of either side front panel there is a heavy trim of metal self-fabric covered ball buttons from beneath the hips to the hem. At each side and at the centre back, there is a slit in the jacket from the knees to the hem, each trimmed in the same buttons. The dress beneath is made of the same brown silk, with an allover pattern of white and dark brown embroidered flowers. Only the sections that are visible beneath the jacket are made from this material; the covered sections in the bodice are made of ivory silk, and the covered section in the skirt are made of the same material as the jacket. There is no shaping in the dress. The jacket and dress hems both fall to calf length.

- Sun dress, c.1930. White cotton with embroidery on bodice and around bottom of skirt. Three quarter length sleeves, loose open back. Full calf length skirt. The open weave cotton material has embroidery in the art deco style. The bodice is hand sewn together along the embroidery lines, with a round neckline and a back that drapes open in a low hanging V shape. The sleeves have more of the same embroidery at the cuffs. The back closure, just to the right of the centre, begins with an overlapping snap and two hooks and eyes at the waist. It continues with hooks and eyes to below the waist. The skirt is machine sewn from one panel, heavily gathered all around the waist except for a section in the centre back. It continues until it reaches calf length, and ends with embroidery at the hem.

- Evening dress, c.1950s. Brick red and purple striped rayon taffeta with matching drawstring bag. Floor length princess cut with a small train, sleeveless with shoulder puffed drapery around neckline. Zipper down left side. The low shoulders and round neckline are formed with taffeta with purple, brown, green, and grey stripes of varying widths, in a puffed arrangement that has a twist at centre front and back. It is also gathered at the centre back. The main dress is formed with brick red taffeta in a princess cut with a centre front panel of striped red and grey taffeta. There is a panel on either side of this front piece that continues to the side backs. It has a dart at the right side, and a metal zipper on the right for its closure. Six panels make up the back, each contoured. At the lower back, there is a large inverted box pleat; here, two large godets add extra volume for the length of the skirt. At the slightly trained hem, there is also some interfacing within. The dress is lined throughout with brown cotton twill except on the centre front panel. The seams are all individually whip-stitched to finish. The matching purse is about eight inches high, made of the same fabric as the neckline puff on the dress and lined with purple cotton. It is gathered into a round bottom reinforced with cardboard. The top closes with a drawstring of the same material.

- Mini dress, c.1960s. Purple rayon/acetate velvet with cream acrylic moire taffeta bottom and cuffs, and acetate organza ruffles. Velvet bow at neckline and velvet buttons down front. Zipper in back. The dress has a round neckline with two layers of white organza ruffles. Down the centre front, there is a three inch panel of cream acrylic moire taffeta, edged on either side with two layers of organza ruffles. Near its top is a bow of the same purple velvet as the dress, and on centre front there are nine small decorative buttons in the same velvet. The long set in sleeves are velvet with cuffs of cream taffeta that are separated from the sleeve by two rows of organza ruffles. There is also a large band of cream taffeta at the end of the dress, about eight inches wide. The dress has little shaping, and no waistline. It flares out in a slight A line shape. There is also a bust dart on either side, and a dart on the back of each shoulder. The back is plain except for the metal zipper at centre back that extends from the neckline to the hips. There is no lining except for a linen backing for the centre front panel, as well as a purple facing for the neckline. The seams are either clean finished, or left unfinished.

- Tea dress, c.1908. White cotton lawn, lace embroidery. High stand collar, three quarter length sleeves, floor length skirt with more fullness towards the bottom. Slight puff at bodice from gathering at waist. The high stand collar is made of lace. On either side of the centre back, there are vertical bands in a pattern: lawn with tiny pin tucks halfway down, lace, eyelet lawn, lace, pin tucked lawn. There are also the same vertical bands on the front, but they are interrupted at various points by horizontal and triangle shapes of lace and lawn embroidered with abstract patterns. The sleeves are lawn on the inside, and covered in bands of lace and eyelet lawn on the outside. The cuffs are made with ruffled bands of lace. The bodice is gathered on all sides at the waist, which is defined by a horizontal band of eyelet lawn bordered by two bands of lace. The skirt extends from the waist with vertical bands of lace and lawn. Just below the hips there is a horizontal band of eyelet lawn, and the next section is pleated to that. It is made with two panels, with floral embroidery. The bottom is scalloped and embroidered, but there is still a separate hem attached beneath it. The bodice closes up the centre back from the neck to the hips with pearl ball buttons.

- Evening dress, c.1912. Cream silk charmeuse with beaded lace overlay. High waist, directoire style. Half length sleeves, floor length skirt, rosettes on lower back of skirt. The dress has a round neckline edged with a finer lace, and a bodice that is entirely covered in a layer of lace. On the lace there are abstract beaded patterns. Hanging from the right shoulder across to the centre front, there is a panel of finer lace. The main lace extends to halfway down the sleeve, and on the second half it is covered in the fine lace. At the high waistline, the lace hangs in two split pieces that overlap at the centre front. The silk layer of the skirt is made in a front and back panel. The hem goes up to calf level, and the hem stitching is attached to a row of beading on the front of the skirt. At the centre back, at calf level, the two halves of the lace are held up together in a ball with wired rosettes. The lace closes at the centre back with hooks and eyes to cover the closure in the main fabric. The silk layer closes up the the neckline at the centre back with hooks and eyes.

- Tea dress, c.1908-1910. Cream machine valenciennes lace with diamond floral pattern. Half length kimono sleeves, round neck; long skirt. Slight pouter pigeon front. The neckline is high and round, edged with some lace. The bodice slopes inwards towards the waist, where it is gathered slightly. There is a seam that goes from under each arm to the waist to set the sleeves behind the slight pouter pigeon front. They have a kimono cut at the top. The bodice is lined with cotton lawn, which has two pleats on the front where it attaches to the waistband. There is no band at the waist, but its seam is bound by the same lawn lining fabric. The skirt is attached to the waistband in four gores that flare out somewhat. The closure runs from the neckline to just below the hips, at centre back. Hooks and eyes are used.

- Bodice and skirt, c.1900. Brown cotton, black lace trim. High collar, low curved yoke, pouter pigeon front. Skirt has two bands and lace at the bottom, flounced in back. The high stand collar is covered in black lace, which extends in a wide curved yoke on the bodice. Beneath that there is a flounced band that splits at centre front and back, with a lace trimmed bow at centre front. The main bodice section has gathering at the centre front beneath the yoke and along the bottom, creating a puffed pouter pigeon front as the bottom front dips down as well. The back lies flat with pin tucks that fan out from the centre bottom. The sleeves have pin tucks coming from the shoulder on the outside edge, that end at the forearms. They are gathered to the cuffs as bishop sleeves. The lace trimmed cuffs have placket openings, and close with a hook and eye. The skirt has five gores extending from a small waistband, with two darts for shaping. At calf level, there is a band of black lace trim over two tiers of the skirt fabric, the bottom of which extends to the hem. They are flounced at the centre back. Under the bottom of the hem there is a band of black braided cord with a frayed bottom that protects and adds shape to the hem. Inside, the skirt is lined with black cotton. It closes with hooks and eyes at the centre back. The bodice is lined with brown cotton, and has nine bones. The lining closes separately with hooks and eyes at the centre front, and the main fabric of the bodice closes with hooks and eyes at the left seam and shoulder, and centre back of the collar.

- wedding dress, c.1902-1908. White china silk. Pouter pigeon bodice with half length sleeves and cumberbund. Skirt is shirred at waist and flares out at lower half. This Edwardian wedding dress is made almost entirely of china silk. Usually a lining fabric, the Edwardians often used it for special occasions such as weddings to achieve a floating, puffed up silhouette without any bulk at the waist. The bodice has three layers of ruffles at the high round neckline. The bodice front has two layers to hide its hook and eye closures. The back of the bodice has two panels four pin tucks for shaping. At the shoulders, there are rows of shirring that continue into the sleeve. The sleeves are gathered again into a cuff at their ends. The cumberbund is shirred at each end, as well as in the centre with three rows of shirring. There are three stays at the centre and one at each end; it closes with hooks and eyes which are covered by bows. The skirt has multiple rows of shirring at the waist. It has three gores, including one at the centre front that extends from the waistband without any shirring. There are two godets at the back seam and one at each of the side seams that begin at hip level and continue until about calf level. Then there is a new band of silk shirred onto the skirt, with three horizontal tucks at the bottom; the last tuck forms the hem. It is self lined under the bottom shirred section, with an un-gathered lining.

- Dress, c.1913-1914. Cream china silk skirt, silk chiffon sleeves, white cotton lawn bodice, ivory lace trim. High directoire waistline, long sleeves, full length skirt. The neckline is a boat neck, trimmed with a small band of ivory lace with an abstract design. The bodice of white lawn is unshaped except for a dart under each bust, and there is also a tuck near the waist. Each sleeve attaches onto the bodice side fronts, and the bodice is hemmed within. The chiffon sleeves extend in a kimono cut to a gathered wrist with a china silk cuff attached by chain stitch embroidery. It closes with two snaps. The china silk skirt attaches at a high waist. It has gathers all around except for the centre front. Just past the knee, it has three large tucks that go around the circumference of the skirt and a fourth that is actually a hem. The dress has snap closures up the centre back, from the neckline to just past the hips.

Centennial badge with the offical emblem of a stylized grouping of the three "C's" representing Canada, Confederation, Centennial, with the provincial floral emblem, the dogwood, in the centre; two plastic buttons in tortoise shell design as centre fasteners; jacket style with lapels and two waist level pockets. Straight style short skirt in brown fabric.
- Object History
- The jacket and skirt were issued to female members of Burnaby's 1971 Centennial Committee. It is believed that these pieces belonged to Mary D. Trainer, who was the Centennial Co-ordinator hired to help organize a variety of community events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of British Columbia's entry into Confederation. Burnaby's Centennial Committee was chaired by Mr. James Barrington. The committee organized a variety of community events, including the construction of a Heritage Village (now Burnaby Village Museum). Mrs. Trainer altered her skirt to be shorter than the standard issue skirt: shorter skirts were a more fashionable look for a young woman at the time.

- Bodice, c.1900. Black silk taffeta. Trimmed with velvet, net, sequins, beads, and embroidered applique. Leg o' mutton sleeves, high collar. Skirt: BV985.3515.1. The entire bodice is black, and the net seems to come pre-embroidered with sequins and beads. The high collar is covered with the embroidered net, and edged with velvet on the top. On the centre front of the bodice, there is a different net with strips of velvet that run horizontally at intervals. The lace is gathered at the neckline and at the waistline to create a puff at the bodice front. Hanging from each shoulder with the corner pointing to the elbow is a square of sequin and bead embroidered net, edged with a strip of velvet. Another strip of velvet attaches to that one with a faggoted stitch. The sleeves are set in at the armscye, but gradually come out to huge pleated puffs at the elbows. They then taper back to the wrists, where there is a small split. Here a flounce of net hangs, trimmed with a ruffle of black taffeta. On the outside of the cuffs, there is an applique of maple leaf embroidery. At the waist, which comes to a slight point at the centre front, there is a belt of three velvet strips. At the centre back, there are three triangle shaped formations of bead on a metal frame, one on each velvet strip. There are six of these at centre front (one on each side of the hook and eye closure) and there are two on each side, where the strips are gathered slightly on top of each other. Inside, the bodice is lined with brown, white, and green striped taffeta. There are fifteen feather bones on the sides and back. The bodice closes up the centre front with hooks and eyes, and the collar wraps around the back to close there with two hooks and eyes.
