Christmas card to the Adolf family featuring a photograph of the Mawhinney family home at 908 Burris Avenue (later 6011 Buckingham). The home is pictured at the end of a long driveway. House number "908" is nailed to a tree. Large evergreens line one side of the driveway. There are lot of leaves on the ground but still some leaves on the trees.
History
Local farmers William Alexander Mawhinney (1870-1953) and Annie Josephine Mawhinney (née Sutcliff, 1871-1956) built this residence as their retirement home. It was the last of several houses built in the immediate vicinity by members of the Mawhinney family between 1909 and 1930. Born in Ireland, William Mawhinney first came to Burnaby to help his brother Isaiah establish his fruit farm. Due to his farm management experience, in 1908 William became foreman of the Avalon estate at Deer Lake that was owned by F.J. Hart. When he retired in 1930, William had fifty years of experience as a fruit and grain farmer. This house is situated on its lot at an angle, rather than parallel to the street, to take advantage of the view of wooded Buckingham Creek that runs through the northeast section of the property.

History
Mrs Bate was a church choir singer. In 1976 she was asked to help form the Confederation Singers at the North Burnaby Confederation Seniors Centre. She started the choir and conducted it until her retirement in 1986. The costume, as seen in several photographs and also in the Burnaby Vilalge Museum collection, was made by members of the choir who made similar 1890's period costumes for themselves. The choir sang in seniors centres and at special events at Century Park (now known as the Burnaby Village Museum). They were also invited to sing at Government House in Victoria.

"for a Jolly Christmas!"; 'Hoot' is in red plaid, 'Jolly Christmas' in green; "I'll send a card to wish ye A Christmas full of cheer I'll sign my name in pencil So ye'll use the card next year"; dashed line below with pencilled "Anne"; coloured holly and thistles below; card is original and addition; signed on reverse by Frank Rose and Gordon Loutet and their families from 1929 to 1959; additional card of similar size glued to the bottom edge to accomodate additional signatures from 1960 to 2003.
Object History
Frank Rose of Burnaby and Gordon Loutet of Lake Cowichan exchanged this Christmas card from 1929 to 2003. The card was first sent from Frank to Gordon in 1929, when the two boys were 12 years old, and lived a block away from each other. Frank suggested, as does the card, that Gordon erase his pencilled signature and return the card the next year - which Gordon did. The two friends and their families continued the exchange until 2003. The exchange was uninterrupted, even during WWll and the card was never lost in the mail. In 1991, the card received international recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records.
