He is holding a small hacksaw and a pipe. In the background is an awning with the word “HOTEL”. The awning is similar to the awnings shown in The bus has the word "Pacific Sta __ / LTD" visible in the rear window (Pacific Stage Lines, owned by B.C. Electric Company, consolidated bus service in the Fraser Valley from July 1, 1926). This bus is a model built by the Fogel Bros, California and used by other transportation companies also owned by B.C. Electric.
