- Burnaby's Centennial Project was conceived to re-create a permanent memorial to colonial settlement on the west coast based on the period between 1890 and 1920. The commemorative project was initiated by The Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee in close co-operation with the Burnaby Historical Society, Burnaby Parks and Recreation Commission and Project Consultants: Hopping, Kovach, Grinnell, Design Consultants Ltd.; General Contractor : Ballarin Bros. Ltd; Finish Contractor: Franco Pozzollo - Trevi Construction; Architects: Donald Erb and Associates; Landscape: Burnaby Parks & Recreation; Mechanical: Slinn S.P. and Co. Ltd. and Electrical: Arnold Nemetz Engineering. Student Labour from Douglas College and Simon Fraser University provided by "Operation Ahoy" (in conjunction with the Opportunities for Youth programme). The Century Park Museum Association held it's founding meeting on October 26, 1971 in the Council Chambers of the Burnaby Municipal Hall. The Association was founded under the auspices of the Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee, to adminster Burnaby's Centennial '71 Commemorative project, "Heritage Village" located at Canada Way and Deer Lake Avenue. The original project proposal included a museum, blacksmith shop, buggy and bicycle shop, print shop, general store, green grocery store, ice cream parlour, dentist office, apothecary shop and jail. The first phase of the Heritage Village (Park) was officially opened on November 19, 1971. For the opening the Print Shop, Blacksmith Shop and Pharmacy were operating. The General Store, Land Registry Office, Chinese Store, Bike and Buggy Repair Shop and Barber-Dentist were filled with temporary exhibits illustrating the future plans. The schoolhouse featured a class in penmanship given by Mr. H.B. MacLean to a group of children dressed in period costume. Coffee was served to those attending in the area which will be developed as an Ice Cream Parlour. The Interurban Tram from Kingsway and Edmonds was partially restored for the opening.

- Burnaby's Centennial Project was conceived to re-create a permanent memorial to "founders of our west coast society", how they lived, how they worked, played and created the basic pattern of our present city. The project was patterned after "Barkerville" and "Upper Canada Village". The Municipality of Burnaby assembled components of a park on a five acre site located on the east side of Century Gardens and just north of Deer Lake. The site was named "Heritage Village" which would be compirised of an 1890s townsite with a Main Street bordered by workshops, businesses and offices and a village square with a bandstand, a maple tree and boardwalks. The commemorative project was initiated by The Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee in close co-operation with the Burnaby Historical Society, Burnaby Parks and Recreation Commission and Project Consultants: Hopping, Kovach, Grinnell, Design Consultants Ltd.; General Contractor : Ballarin Bros. Ltd; Finish Contractor: Franco Pozzollo - Trevi Construction; Architects: Donald Erb and Associates; Landscape: Burnaby Parks & Recreation; Mechanical: Slinn S.P. and Co. Ltd. and Electrical: Arnold Nemetz Engineering. Student Labour from Douglas College and Simon Fraser University provided by "Operation Ahoy" (in conjunction with the Opportunities for Youth programme). The first installation of "Heritage Village" was funded by a combination of Federal, Provincial and Municipal grants with work beginning on April 10, 1971. The Century Park Museum Association held it's founding meeting on October 26, 1971 in the Council Chambers of the Burnaby Municipal Hall. The Association was founded under the auspices of the Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee, to adminster Burnaby's Centennial '71 Commemorative project, "Heritage Village" located at Canada Way and Deer Lake Avenue. The first phase of the Heritage Village (Park) was officially opened on November 19, 1971. The project included the following buildings; a blacksmith shop, buggy and bicycle shop, general store, land registry office, schoolhouse, print shop, apothecary shop, Barber - dentist, Chinese shop window display, ice cream parlour, Interurban tram and station, restored country home (E.W. - History
- The book, "In the Shadow by the Sea: Recollections of Burnaby's Barnet Village" was published in 2004 as a historical project under the direction of the Community Heritage Commission. Community Heritage Commission volunteer Harry Pride was the driving force behind this project contacting many former residents of Barnet to obtain photographs and stories for the book. The book documents the history of the settlement of Burnaby's Barnet district including memoirs and photographs of various people who worked and lived there.

- Doreen "Pixie" Johnson was born in 1922 and married John Aloysius "Jack" McGeachie in April 1942. Jack and Pixie McGeachie lived on Rosewood Street (formerly named Campbell Street pre 1951) in Burnaby from 1948 where they raised their two children; David and Kathi. Pixie was well known for her volunteer work in Burnaby. Pixie served for over 20 years as the volunteer archivist for the Burnaby Historical Society; served as president of the Century Park Museum Association and the Friends of the Interurban 1223 and a six year term on Burnaby's Heritage Commission. Pixie was also a Burnaby historian and author who published a column in the Burnaby Examiner Newspaper entitled "Burnaby History" as well as three books about Burnaby History entitled "Bygones of Burnaby"; "Burnaby - A Proud Century" and "Land of Promise: Robert Burnaby's letters from Colonial B.C." Due to her diligent volunteer work in Burnaby, Pixie was the recipient of many awards between 2002 and 2008. Awards included: 2002 - the Kushiro cup for Citizen of the Year; 2006 - Heritage BC project award for her work with Friends of the Interurban 1223 and in 2008 - Heritage BC - Ruby Nobb Award. Jack McGeachie passed away in 1981, at the age of 67 years and Pixie McGeachie passed away in August 2010 at the age of 88 years. On September 24, 2010, Pixie was honoured by the City of Burnaby when they dedicated the reading room of the City of Burnaby Archives by naming it the "Pixie McGeachie Reading Room".

- Burnaby's Centennial Project was conceived to re-create a permanent memorial to colonial settlement on the west coast based on the period between 1890 and 1920. The commemorative project was initiated by The Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee in close co-operation with the Burnaby Historical Society, Burnaby Parks and Recreation Commission and Project Consultants: Hopping, Kovach, Grinnell, Design Consultants Ltd.; General Contractor : Ballarin Bros. Ltd; Finish Contractor: Franco Pozzollo - Trevi Construction; Architects: Donald Erb and Associates; Landscape: Burnaby Parks & Recreation; Mechanical: Slinn S.P. and Co. Ltd. and Electrical: Arnold Nemetz Engineering. Student Labour from Douglas College and Simon Fraser University provided by "Operation Ahoy" (in conjunction with the Opportunities for Youth programme). The Century Park Museum Association held it's founding meeting on October 26, 1971 in the Council Chambers of the Burnaby Municipal Hall. The Association was founded under the auspices of the Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee, to adminster Burnaby's Centennial '71 Commemorative project, "Heritage Village" located at Canada Way and Deer Lake Avenue. The original project proposal included a museum, blacksmith shop, buggy and bicycle shop, print shop, general store, green grocery store, ice cream parlour, dentist office, apothecary shop and jail. The first phase of the Heritage Village (Park) was officially opened on November 19, 1971. For the opening the Print Shop, Blacksmith Shop and Pharmacy were operating. The General Store, Land Registry Office, Chinese Store, Bike and Buggy Repair Shop and Barber-Dentist were filled with temporary exhibits illustrating the future plans. The schoolhouse featured a class in penmanship given by Mr. H.B. MacLean to a group of children dressed in period costume. Coffee was served to those attending in the area which will be developed as an Ice Cream Parlour. The Interurban Tram from Kingsway and Edmonds was partially restored for the opening.

The film opens with historical background regarding land settlement and development in Burnaby supported with historical images. The film then transverses into contemporary images and footage of the Burnaby Village Museum which opened in Burnaby on November 19, 1971 in commemoration of British Columbia joining the confederation of Canada. The film’s title text, “Step Back / In Time / at the Burnaby Village / Museum & Carousel” appears a few minutes past the opening footage. Narration continues throughout the film along with interviews with various staff members and museum interpreters. The film is divided into various segments containing titles in order of appearance: “Deer Lake Park” provides glimpses of and information about Deer Lake Park, its heritage buildings and cultural facilities including The Burnaby Art Gallery, The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and Burnaby Village Museum. “A Living Museum” takes you on a tour of some of the museum’s exhibits and programs through the museum’s interpreters. “The Magical Carousel” provides background on the historic C.W. - Photograph of a design presentation drawing of a street scene in Heritage Park created for the Burnaby Centennial Committee. The drawing was created by Rudy Kovach of "Hopping/Kovach/Grinnell" Design Consultants. The street scene includes buildings along the main street of Heritage Park with signage identifying them as; "The Royal Bank", "Surgery", "Barber", "Medicals-Drugs". A blacksmith or harness shop with a carriage and parts is visible in the foreground..
- History
- Burnaby's Centennial Project was conceived to re-create a permanent memorial to colonial settlement on the west coast based on the period between 1890 and 1920. The commemorative project was initiated by The Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee in close co-operation with the Burnaby Historical Society, Burnaby Parks and Recreation Commission and Project Consultants: Hopping, Kovach, Grinnell, Design Consultants Ltd.; General Contractor : Ballarin Bros. Ltd; Finish Contractor: Franco Pozzollo - Trevi Construction; Architects: Donald Erb and Associates; Landscape: Burnaby Parks & Recreation; Mechanical: Slinn S.P. and Co. Ltd. and Electrical: Arnold Nemetz Engineering. Student Labour from Douglas College and Simon Fraser University provided by "Operation Ahoy" (in conjunction with the Opportunities for Youth programme). The Century Park Museum Association held it's founding meeting on October 26, 1971 in the Council Chambers of the Burnaby Municipal Hall. The Association was founded under the auspices of the Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee, to adminster Burnaby's Centennial '71 Commemorative project, "Heritage Village" located at Canada Way and Deer Lake Avenue. The original project proposal included a museum, blacksmith shop, buggy and bicycle shop, print shop, general store, green grocery store, ice cream parlour, dentist office, apothecary shop and jail. The first phase of the Heritage Village (Park) was officially opened on November 19, 1971. For the opening the Print Shop, Blacksmith Shop and Pharmacy were operating. The General Store, Land Registry Office, Chinese Store, Bike and Buggy Repair Shop and Barber-Dentist were filled with temporary exhibits illustrating the future plans. The schoolhouse featured a class in penmanship given by Mr. H.B. MacLean to a group of children dressed in period costume. Coffee was served to those attending in the area which will be developed as an Ice Cream Parlour. The Interurban Tram from Kingsway and Edmonds was partially restored for the opening.

The plaque reads: "This interurban tram car was built in 1913 be the St. Louis Car Co. for The British Columbia Electric Railway Co. and operated over that company's three lines in Burnaby until abandonment, November 17th 1956. Throughout the nearly fifty years of its existence this tram and seventy similar cars carried many thousands of settlers and commuters and helped to build Burnaby into a thriving community of over 80,000." / "Dedicated and placed here by Burnaby Historical Society, Nov. 30th 1958." The tram was displayed at the Edmonds Bus Loop at Edmonds Street and Kingsway.
