- Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) blue wool service coat, uniform jacket.
- The coat is single breasted with a four brass button closure. The buttons are embossed with the King's crown above an eagle volant affronte the head to the sinister. Below the eagle is "R.C.A.F."
- There are two upper breast pockets with button flaps and box pleats, and two lower pockets with button flaps.
- There is a "CANADA" shoulder flash on each shoulder. Above the left breast pocket is a badge with a single wing attached to an "O". The badge is the Observer badge also worn by Navigators.
- On each cuff there is a rank insignia of a single light blue or white stripe on a black background.

- Medal ribbon bar with 6 medals. Medals from left to right:
- Distinguished Flying Cross: Silver cross, the vertical arms of the cross has the image of airplane propellers. The horizontal arms of the cross have wings. In the centre of the cross is a circle with a crown on top and "RAF" in the centre. The reverse has the Royal Cypher in the centre "GVI" and 1918. Engraved at the bottom of the cross is 1945. The ribbon is white and purple stripes on the diagonal.
- 1939-1945 Star: Six pointed star, the obverse has a design of the Royal and Imperial cypher below a crown. The cypher is surrounded by the text "The 1939 - 1945 Star". The ribbon consists of three equal stripes of light blue, red, and dark blue

The reverse of the medal is a Royal crown above an oak tree, flanked by a lion and a lioness. The top left has the date "1939" and the top right has "1945". The text below is "THE DEFENCE / MEDAL". The ribbon is a light green with a central stripe of orange and a narrow black stripe in the middle of the green.
- Canadian Volunteer Service Medal: Circular silver medal, The obverse shows seven marching figures representing the men and women of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Nursing service. Around the edge of the medal is the text "1939 CANADA 1945 VOLUNTARY SERVICE VOLONTAIRE". The reverse of the medal shows the Canadian coat of arms. This side is tarnished or scuffed. The ribbon has a stripe of royal blue in the centre flanked by two equal stripes of scarlet and dark green.
- War Medal 1939-1945: Circular silver medal, the obverse shows a crown profile of King George VI, facing left. Text circling the profile is "GEORGIVS VI D : BR : OMN : REX ET INDIAE IMP:". The reverse shows a lion standing on the body of a double headed dragon. The dragon's heads are of an eagle and a dragon. At the top right are the dates "1939/1940". The ribbon has seven stripes of red, blue, and white.
- 100th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada: Circular silver medal, the obverse has Queen Elizabeth II's royal cypher on top of a maple leaf. - Collection of souvenir photograph cards titled "London Under Fire" published by Photochrom Company Limited of London. The photos included are Set B, and contains 11 numbered images of London. It is assumed that one of the cards is missing.
- The cards come in a blue paper envelope with a diamond shaped cut out on the front to reveal the first photograph in the stack of cards within.
- Each card has a number on the front, and the back has a title describing the scene in the photograph along with maker information.

- Item consists of a recording of an oral history interview with Lachman Singh Gill and family members conducted by Burnaby Village Museum Registrar, Rajdeep. The first part of the interview was conducted with Lachman Singh Gill in Punjabi with some English and the second part of the interview (15 min.) was conducted in English with family members, Santokh Singh Gill, Mohinder Kaur Gill and Prem Kaur Gill. 00:00:00 - 00:05:35 This interview starts abruptly, and the interviewer was unable to introduce the interviewees and themself. There were also technical difficulties in the beginning, which led to the recording starting mid-sentence. Discussion begins with Lachman Singh Gill providing details on his spiritual practices and background. 00:05:35 - 00:13:38 Discussion continues with Lachman providing details on his birthplace in Punjab, his family home, family names and languages spoken while living in India (Punjabi and Urdu). Family members chime in to help with details. 00:13:39 - 00:18:00 Lachman Gill imparts information on his migration story from England to British Columbia and his experiences when he first came to England from India. The group shares some of their favourite types of roti and Lachman talks about using his hearing aid. The interviewer and group convey to Lachman how the information will be used. Lachman describes how his wife made oatmeal. 01:04:20 - 01:15:54 In this portion of the interview, Santokh and Prem Gill show the interviewer a book by Henry Bromley titled “Fire in the Blood: A History of British Columbia and Alberta Foundries”. The book was given to the Santokh when he was working at the foundry and contains photographs of Lachman Gill and the foundries they worked at. Santokh describes photographs within the book and the metal casting processes.
- History
- Interviewees' biographies: Lachman Singh Gill was born in 1928 in the village of Ferozepur near Lakhpur, Punjab. In 1943, Lachman married his wife Surjit Kaur Ark who was from the village of Malpur. Sometime after Partition in 1947, Lachman and his wife Surjeet immigrated to England. Lachman and Surjit had seven children, four sons and three daughters. Around 1973, Lachman's son, Santokh "Gurmail" Singh Gill sponsored his father and mother and they immigrated to Canada joining him and his family in Burnaby, British Columbia. After arriving in British Columbia, Lachman worked as a steel worker at a foundry and drove his own taxi. Lachman retired in his ffities and continues to live with his son and family in Burnaby. Santokh "Gurmail" Singh Gill was born in the District of Jalandhar in Punjab, India. Gurmail moved to England with his family in 1957 and immigrated to British Columbia in 1966. Gurmail married Mohinder Kaur Gill in England in 1968 and she immigrated to British Columbia from England soon after. Gurmail first lived with a cousin in Burnaby before purchasing a home of his own in Burnaby where he raised his family. Gurmail worked in the steel industry and was a member and treasurer of the CAIMAW before the union merged with the Canadian Auto Workers Union. Mohinder Kaur Gill was born in the Hoshiapur in Punjab, India. She married her husband Santokh "Gurmail" Singh Gill in England in 1968 and immigrated to Burnaby, British Columbia to join her husband. Mohinder and Gurmail Gill have four children, all born in Burnaby. Prem Kaur Gill was born in Burnaby in 1969 and is the eldest child of Santokh "Gurmail" Singh Gill and Mohinder Kaur Gill. Prem grew up and attended school in Burnaby. Interviewer biography: Rajdeep was born and raised in the Lower Mainland and is of Punjabi (South Asian) descent. She has an Associate of Arts degree in Asian Studies from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia. She is a student in the Restoration of Natural Systems program at the University of Victoria. Rajdeep works at Simon Fraser University as a Program Assistant and as a researcher with the City of Burnaby. At Burnaby Village Museum, Rajdeep contributed to the exhibit “Truths Not Often Told: Being South Asian in Burnaby”.
