In 1972, the building was almost completely destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1973 behind the newly restored original facade.

The family runs Hop-On Farm on Marine Drive in Burnaby. Many Hong family members worked on the farm including Josephine Hong's grandfather, Gay Tim Hong, and uncles. Her great-grandfather was Sui Wing Hong
