English Name: Sulphur Chinese Pinyin Name: Liuhuang (ShiLiuHuang) Physical Description: lumps of yellow crystal in varying sizes and shapes; each piece has smoother and rougher areas with the rougher areas having a whitish appearance Production Regions: Primarily produced in Mount Muyang, Donghai, Mount Taishan and Mount Hexi, Yiyang, Mount Qishan, Linyi, and Kunlun and Persia, Yazhou, Mount Qiemi, Mount Liuqiu, Huangnan Functions: Treats phlegmons, hemorrhoids and bleeding. It strengthens tendons, bones and muscle, and heals baldness. It treats the epigastrium and abdomen, and reduces gas. It treats coughing. Good for the feet. It stops epistaxis, treats sores, and ulcers of the female external genitals. Good for the lumbar region and kidney. Treats scabies and kills parasites. For male sexuality, and consumpton. Treats chronic dysentery, diarrhea and cholera. Treats infantile convulsions
Object History
Collection of original raw contents of the Chinese Herbalist Shop, Way Sang Yuen Wat Kee, Victoria BC, as purchased from Rodney Pain in 1974. Sulfur is a mineral drug that is traditionally used to treat medical conditions on the skin. Sulphur was ground into a powder and then was either used in pills or turned into a balm to rub on your skin.
