- Tub shaped coiled cedar root basket with cedar root foundation and overcast rim. Walls of basket flare slightly towards rim. Imbricated with designs in red cherry bark and grass. Design is known as cluster of flies. The foot on the bottom of the basket, made from two extra rows of coiling, is a feature that protects the base of the basket from wear and tear. - White beading on the foot of the basket is said to be a feature typical of Spuzzum. This was reported by basket makers from that community during collections research conducted at MOA to Sharon Fortney and Bill Mclennan.

- Rectangular coiled cedar root basket with cedar slat foundation. Parallel slat construction for lid, which is covered in beaded designs. Overcast handles attach to the front and back of basket at both ends. Conoid lid fits overtop of the basket, rather than lying flat. Basket body is completely imbricated with canary grass, black-dyed and red cherry bark. This amount of decoration more common on older pieces and was used to protect the surface of the basket. Leather hinges attach lid to body of basket and there are leather ties at front on lid and body of basket. Possible ladder design. Interior Salish: Nlaka’pamux

- Storage box. Wooden box with slanting top, hinged to open upwards. Lid closes with a clasp. Box is painted black on the outside and is unfinished on the inside and bottom. The box is made from 3/4 inch thick boards. There are two rings at the back edge of the top.

- Collected by Raymond Menah when the Central Park British Columbia Electric Railway Interurban Tram line was shut down in late 1950's. It appears that the box was designed to hang on a wall.

- The Hudson's Bay Company was first incorporated on May 2 1670, making it the oldest incorporated joint-stock merchandising company in the English-speaking world. - This tool box was made by donor's father David, who worked as a machinest at Heaps Engineering in New Westminster. David was born in Scotland in 1882 and immigrated to Canada. He lived in Spruce Street and Telford Street in Burnaby. His children atteneded Kingsway West Elementary School, South Burnaby and King Edward High School.

- tray; a First Nations made, basketry tray; low sides and two raised handles opposite each other; decorative star or flower pattern woven into the bottom in varying shades of brown; multiple areas of loss around outer sides of rim.

- The tray and two baskets (see BV017.11.3 and BV017.11.4) were acquired by the donor's grandparents, Matilda and Robert William Handel, when they were living in North Vancouver. They were made by one of the local First Nations weavers, name unknown.

- Rectangular coiled cedar root basket with cedar slat foundation and remnants of a loopwork rim. The shiny appearance of this grass suggests it is canary grass. Black dyed and red cherry bark are used for the zigzag designs. Coast Salish: Sḵwx̱wú7mesh?

- The donor reported that the baskets were traded in the early 1920s for clothes by the donor's mother, who lived in North Vancouver. Her mother told her the "Capilano Indians" used to go door to door with their baskets in North Vancouver.

- Object History
- Item was part of a scrapbook created by Cecil Chue Kan Lee documenting the time he was employed as a Prodcue Buyer for Kelly Douglas and Company Limited and Western Commodities Limited in the 1970s and early 1980s. As a produce buyer for Kelly Douglas, Cecil Lee worked closely with local farmers along Marine Drive and in the Fraser Valley. The Burnaby company was one of the largest food distributors in Canada. In the mid-1970s, Lee was asked to oversee the import of Chinese mandarin oranges into Canada. Until that time, mandarin oranges had come from Japan and were sold in the winter, especially at Christmas. When the Japanese market could no longer keep up with demand, Kelly Douglas looked to China. The company relied on Lee’s cultural knowledge to build this very profitable part of their business.

- Chinese small, woven basket. For vending fruits and vegetables. It was given by the vender to his customers. It is a brown colour with loop handles opposite each other there is a string with a knot in the middle running from one loop to the other loop. The bottom of the basket is roughly square, becoming more round as it rises. Top is 24.5 cm by 23.5 cm. and the bottom is 14 cm square.

- This basket was a shopping basket for cutsomers of Chinese Canadian food peddlers. The donor indicated that the peddlers sold fruit and vegetables in summer and fish in winter. It was meant to be a convenience to shoppers when she came outside to select produce.

Uses in Chinese medicine: Bitter, slightly sweet, neutral. For liver, spleen and lung meridians. Action: Promote blood circulation, stop bleeding, eliminate dampness and remove toxicity. Indications: Scrofula, toothache, dysentery, leucorrhea, uterine bleeding, abdominal pain after delivery, dysmenorrhea."
