Description
Installation of Ornamental Standards - Notice of Assessment -- [1926]. Card posted from the City of Vancouver Assessment Office to Mrs. E. McMillan. The card was sent to inform residents that new electric streetlights were to be installed on Denman Street in Vancouver, as part of a local improvement on the initiative principle. Information was also given for what the resident would be paying for the installation process.
Object History
Notice of Assessment belonging to Elizabeth McMillan (nee Morton) of Vancouver. Elizabeth was born on May 21, 1868 in New Mills, New Brunswick to Alexander MacMichael Morton and Mary Childs. She married John McMillan on November 18 1885. John was an early Vancouver-area teacher and the couple moved to BC in approximately 1889. John taught at a series of places in the southwestern part of the province, including: East End Public School in Vancouver; Nicomekl River at Cloverdale; Gibsons Landing; and Moodyville (part of North Vancouver). The family lived at 760 Denman Street and had 9 children. John died in 1905 and Elizabeth died in 1936.

Notice; printed with black text on orange cardstock; Text reads from top to bottom: "NEWS -ADVERTISER June 30th, 1892 / BURNABY DISTRICT / A meeting of property owners of the district between the cities of New Westminster and Vancouver will be held in the offic eof Mr. Alexander Phillips, 56 Lorne Street, / New Westminster, this (Thursday) evening at 7 o'clock to consider the propriety / of forming a new municipality for this district. All interested are invited to attend / NOTE: / At this meeting it was carried unamiously that a municipality to be named Burnaby / be formed to embrace all that portion of the District of New Westminster lying between / the boundaries of the City of New Westminster and Vancouver and the Fraser Rive and / any other adjacent parts of the district not included in the existing municipalities / surrounding the lands desired to be included in the new corporation. / PRINTED AT HERITAGE VILLAGE". Description
Souvenir teaspoon from the 1984 BC Summer Games held in Burnaby.
The spoon is metal with a silver finish. At the top of the handle there is a small emblem surrounded by a fillagree design. The emblem has a green background with a gold illustrated bee mascot wearing a crown and holding a torch.
The handle of the spoon has a cross-hatch design.
Object History
This spoon was collected by Donald "Don" N. Brown. Don was involved with the Burnaby Historical Society activities and textual records pertaining to his career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. he donated many photographs to the City of Burnaby Archives because of his involvement with various community groups including the Oakalla Lands Citizens' Committee, renovations of Burnaby Village Museum, and the restoration of Interurban Tram no. 1223.

City of Vancouver Municipal Taxes - Notice -- [1911]. Tax notice from the City of Vancouver's Collection Office for Mrs. McMillan of 760 Denman St, Vancouver. The notice states that Mrs. McMillan owed the sum of $42.10 to the City of Vancouver in taxes. The notice is stamped "Paid/ Sep 14 1911/ City of Vancouver".

Trophy in the shape of a cup with handles on either side, mounted on a round wooden base. On the front "BOWSER RINK/COMPETITION/ B.C.OPEN/ 1948"
Object History
Object originated with the Burnaby Lawn Bowling Club. The "Bowser Rink" presenting the trophy refers to Kerrisdale resident Francis "Frank" Bowser. He was a member of the Kerrisdale Lawn Bowling Club, ca. 1918, and was elected President of the Lower Mainland Lawn Bowling Association in 1919. Francis "Frank" Bowser (1857-1929) came to Vancouver around 1885 and went to work with Dominion Customs, retiring in 1908 as chief landing waiter. He was elected reeve of Point Grey in 1912 and served two terms in office. His brother was former B.C. premier W.J. Bowser. (see Obituary in The Vancouver Sun - 26 Sep 1929).

Object History
This was awarded to the City of Burnaby Planning Department by the Urban Development Institute in 1996 for the redevlopment of the lands which were Oakalla Provincial Prison from 1915-1991.
