- Painting by Indigenous artist, Roy Hanuse titled "Thunderbird".
- This West Coast First Nations style painting was done on a manilla card stock folder and mounted on a black mat board. Painting consists of an underdrawing done in graphite and painted with red, black, green, blue and yellow gouache or tempera paint with some portions painted in a blue glossy paint.
- Handwritten title above painting reads "THUNDERBIRD"; painting is signed by the artist "ROY HANUSE".
- Object History
- Drawings were created in the early 1970s by Roy James Hanuse who was a Kwakwaka'wakw artist known for working in the traditional Kwakwaka'wakw style. Roy was born in 1943 in Bella Bella and lived at Rivers Inlet (Owikeno), British Columbia. Largely self-taught, Roy became interested in his cultural heritage while attending school in Alert Bay in the 1950s. Roy began painting in 1966 and wood carving in 1968. Some highlights of his art career included selling four paintings to the University of British Columbia which were later published in Audrey Hawthorn's "Kwakiutl Art Book" (1979) and carving a 12-foot totem for the Denver Art Museum (1972) and two totem poles that he carved for the Montreal Olympics (1976). Roy James Hanuse died in 2007.

- British Columbia Corrections Service peaked hat. The hat is a summer style. It has black open- weave sides with a black peak, the hat fabric is khaki coloured. There is a brass hat badge with the BC Provincial crest. There is a black chin strap that rests on the top of the peak. Each end is held in place by a silver button with an embossed crown on it. The lining is red and the makers label is inside.

- Radio, Walkie-talkie, "CANADIAN MOTOROLA", "TORONTO CANADA", "MODEL CH23DEN-1104 A/W" "SERIAL 44580", patented 1952-1964 with a rechargeable cadmium battery dated Nov. 4, 1976. The radio has a greenish brown plastic housing with a silver face plate on one side. The plate has a textured area in square and 'M' logo and a section for model and serial number. The cover for the battery pack is missing. There is a red dymo type tape label with "2719" on front. The speaker switch is on one side. There is a second brown dymo type tabe label with "2719" on the top of the radio. Dials for "SQUELCH", "SPKR", hole for "ANT", "VOL-OFF" are also on the top The battery is held in the bottom of the radio by a spring It is marked "NICKEL-CADMIUM BATTERY / RECHARGEABLE / DO NOT THROW AWAY". There is also an indistinct stamp with the date "Nov 24 1976" This radio is missing an antenna and the separate hand held microphone. The screw mount for the microphone is damaged. The On/Off switch has been removed. All of these items would be on the top of the radio. - 12 inch, wooden ruler made by the Acme Co. of Canada. Marked in inches on one side and centimeters on the opposite side. Written on the centimeter side with black felt marker is, "Baitz 1 800 I Escape"; Both ends and top edge of the ruler have been stained with ink. There are small gouges at one end.

- A cast iron gauge of the same design as the Atkins excelsior saw tool Co. It is approximately rectangular in shape with three horizontal bands and four vertical supporting pillars. On the top a set screw is present. A notch is present in the base plate held in place with two short slotted screws and with a smaller adjustment screw above. Markings cast into the saw gauge appear to be: On one side: "MORIN" "PAT/69" "JUNE" "S.J." "SEATTLE" On the other side: "SEATTLE" "1900"
- Object History
- George Jeffery served as a Constable on the Burnaby Police Force from 1912 - 1935. His patrolled the large Central Park District by foot, stretching from Boundary to Royal Oak and Marine Drive to Moscrop. Over the coarse of his duties, Constable Jeffery saw the need for recreational activities in the area. He founded the Burnaby Athletic Association which featured a competitive boxing ring and gym. In 1935, when the Burnaby Police became the British Columbia Provincial Police, rather than leave the community he chose to leave the force. George Jeffery then worked at the nearby Oakalla Prison Farm until retiring in 1945.
