Scope and Content: The film tells the story of Janice Bobic’s parents, John and Frances Wuzinski, including the couple’s move from Manitoba to Burnaby in 1944, where they purchased an acre of land on the corner of Hastings Street and Cliff Avenue. They grew berries, fruit and vegetables for home and for sale, and raised bees. People came from miles around to purchase strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes and honey. The film includes Janice’s memories of growing up in the family garden, along with her sister Mary Louise.Janice describes her decision to continue working the family property, and her sense of connection with her parents and the land.

History: Janice Bobic is the daughter of John and Frances Wuzinski, longtime Burnaby residents who moved from Manitoba to Burnaby in 1944. In 1962 the Wuzinski property was expropriated by the Municipality of Burnaby, and the family purchased another property nearby. They started a new garden, brought the bees, and transplanted several trees to the new property. John passed away in 1998, and Frances in 2000.

History: Tim Nishibata is a member of the Vancouver Japanese Gardeners Association. The Vancouver Japanese Gardeners Association is an independent non-profit organization established in 1959. The association consists of professional gardeners and landscapers, aiming to promote Japanese Gardens through construction, maintenance, and education techniques. Members of the association have built many beautiful Japanese gardens throughout the Lower Mainland and work with other organizations in order to increase their knowledge of and expertise in Japanese gardens. The Association provides educational workshops to its members to improve professional knowledge and skills. In 1987, the Association started the Sumi Award, which is granted annually and recognizes outstanding work in the field.

Film footage documents various stages of restoration of the carousel including, the carousel horses, the "doghouse" and Wurlitzer. There is some narration by the camera person but sound quality is poor and segments contain ambient noise. The footage is divided into segments marked by dates, visible in the bottom right corner. Dates range between April 1991 and March 1993. They are busy scraping away old paint. Various horses are suspended on frames while some are laid on their sides on work benches. 03:24 - 06:15: Nov. 2 1991 : Volunteers and staff working on scraping and sanding away old layers of paint on carousel horses in the Texaco warehouse. Some horses are getting repairs. A little narrative coming from camera operator but mostly ambient sound. The bowling alley was built on the west side of the Digney family home located at 2698 Bonsor Avenue (address became 6521 Bonsor Avenue after 1958). The film documents Ozzie Cavello using his bulldozer to clear the land followed by construction workers laying cinder block walls, a large crane helping to lay steel girders and lumber for the roof. The opening footage is taken from the parking lot of the Simpsons-Sears store on Kingsway. The Film segment closes with large flower arrangements gathered around the entrance of the Digney Bowling Alley in honour of the grand opening with Andy Digney and his brother in law Sydney Swan at the entrance.
