Object History
Burnaby School's Concert Band was organized in the fall of 1969 to provide further challenge and opportunity for interested music students throughout the Burnaby School District. Students represented eleven Junior and Senior Secondary Schools instrumental programs with the majority of students in grades ten to twelve. The Burnaby Schools' Concert Band performed for a number of concerts including the New Westminster May Day and Pacific National Exhibtion parades and during the Royal visit to Burnaby in May 1971. In April 1971, the band performed at the Music Education Conference (Western Division) held in San Diego. The Band auxilliary formed in May 1970 and became a registered society.

Object History
Cake boxes were made to share pieces of a 25,000 pound, 24-foot high offical Centennial cake cake that was displayed at Lougheed Mall. It was baked by George Molecey of Nanaimo, using his Princess Margaret 1958 cake recipe. Newspapers reported it to be the largest fruit cake ever made, and it ws decorated with a tonne of bright coloured icing. The cost of the cake was $50,000 with 15 professional baking assistants working on it for six weeks. The cake celebrated the province's 100th birthday, and the first cut was made by Chief Dan George and Burnaby Mayor, R. W. Prittle.

Invitation was produced by the Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee and distributed to various officials and selected members of the public in recognition of Burnaby's commemorative project for the B.C. Centennial. "Heritage Village" officially opened on November 19, 1971.

The invitation was issued to special guests to attend the official opening of Heritage Village (now the Burnaby Village Museum) in 1971, as well as a luncheon with the Governor General and his wife as special guests. The Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee was responsible for distributing the invitations.
