Heritage Value: In 1938, the Ford Motor Company selected Burnaby as its site for a new assembly plant to serve Western Canada. Ford purchased the land which had been owned by the Silver family at Kingsway and Silver Avenue and built its factory using steel from Burnaby's Dominion Bridge Company. During World War II, the plant was used to produce military vehicles. In 1988, the building was demolished and the Station Square development was constructed on the site.

Heritage Value: After starting the first Oak Theatre in Brandon, Manitoba when talking pictures came along, Andy Digney and his family moved to Burnaby in 1936 and chose the site of their new theatre at the corner of Kingsway and Marlborough. In 1945, Digney sold the theatre but it remained in operation until 1968 when competition forced its closure and demolition. The Oak Theatre - which had opened on August 4, 1937 - was hailed as an artistic masterpiece for its ultra modern white stucco exterior, floodlights and pink-and-green neon marquee. The interior featured a mirrored ceiling, fireplace, and aquarium and had a colour scheme of orchid, royal blue, silver and black.

An annotation on the back of the photo reads: "I will send you some snaps of the wedding if they come out O.K."

History: Arthur Lobley immigrated to Canada in 1892. He married Dora Cooke (identified as Mrs. A. Lobley in photograph), likely in England. Arthur worked for the CPR and the couple lived at 2619 Marlborough Avenue in Burnaby. Along with his brother, Charles, Arthur was an early resident of the Central Park neighbourhood of Burnaby. According to George Green's book, "History of Burnaby," pg. 134, the Lobleys were an early pioneer family in Burnaby. Arthur Lobley is credited for opening the Royal Oak Road to the tram station at Royal Oak in 1897. Dora's aunt, Emma Sully and her husband John Sully were lodgers at the Lobley house on Marlborough Street. Dora's cousin, Winnifred Davis Patterson was also a lodger until her marriage to Carl Anderson in 1940.

Dot Digney, Sid and Connie Swan can be seen bowling. This footage is followed with Andy Digney and Charles E. Jones at the Bird's of Paradise bird sanctuary followed by footage of Stanley Park. The footage continues and interchanges between black and white and colour as the Digney's take a ferry ride to North Vancouver where they visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Fishermen's Cove. The reel closes with footage of skiers on Grouse Mountain and a fire at Pier D in 1938.
