- Photograph of three men standing outside a fence next to a log cabin. The man standing to the right with the white shirt may be Claude Hill, but the others are unidentified. This cabin may have belonged to early Burnaby resident Charles Sprott. During the late 1880s and early 1890s, Charles Sprott settled on a piece of land in Murrayville (Langley) near the border with the United States. When his cabin burned down in 1891, Sprott moved to Burnaby where another former Murrayville resident, Claude Hill had also relocated.

- In “The Store” film maker Teresa Switzer reminds us of the power of second chances. She shares the story of opening a second hand store called “Yesterday’s Collectibles” with her friend, Pete. The store was located on West Broadway in Vancouver from 1983 to 1985. She recalls the challenges of operating a small business, coupled with the personal challenge of the end of her marriage. The film ends with a reflection on the lessons learned from the experience, and her good fortune of finding a second chance with her new partner, Patrick.
- History
- Teresa Switzer is originally from Winnipeg. She moved to the Westcoast in 1973, and has lived in South Burnaby since 1997. After the store closed, Teresa worked as a project coordinator for cancer research at UBC and BC Cancer Research. Teresa and Patrick Lucy were together from 1985 until Patrick passed away in 2007. Patrick was an Exhibit Preparator at Burnaby Village Museum for 13 years before retiring in 2006.

- Photograph of an L shaped building with a flat front. Letters on the front of the store read, "Ontario Liquor Store / Grocery / Tailor." Four men are standing near the store on the boardwalk, three boys are sitting, and a woman is standing on the boardwalk leaning against the fence on the far left. As is normal for most tintypes, the image appears reversed, left to right. (Few tintype cameras included a mirror or prism that made the image appear 'right way round').
- History
- From Denby Bros. Shoe Store at 163 West Pender in Vancouver. Stafford Ague Denby (1882-1957) started peddling shoe findings in 1918 around Vancouver to repair shops around town from the back of an old Ford. Two of his brothers, William Albert (1873-1947) and Melvin Stanley (1879-1953) joined him in 1919 to form Denby Bros & Co. Ltd Leather and Shoe Findings at 163 West Pender. William Gordon Pope started helping out in the shoe store at the age of 10. He eventually ran the store with his cousin, Pat Denby (son of William A. Denby) starting in the 1950s. The store closed in 1974.
