- Film footage documenting informal interviews with brothers William “Bill” and Albert Parker conducted by Burnaby Village Museum curator, Colin Stevens. The footage opens in the administration building of the Burnaby Village Museum where Bill Parker describes a pair of cross country skis that he is donating to the museum. Bill recollects how he constructed the skis out of cedar in the late 1920s when he was about 9 or 10 years old. Bill tells of how he skied in the neighbourhood of the Jesse Love farmhouse on Cumberland Road, using the skis until the mid to late 1930s. The film continues with a tour of the Jesse Love farmhouse which is under restoration on site of the Burnaby Village Museum. Curator Colin Stevens takes Albert and Bill Parker through various rooms inside of the house sharing details of what staff have discovered during the restoration process and gathers informative details by interviewing them. During the interviews, the brothers recollect what it was like living in the house in the 1920s. They provide details on the house’s construction, fixtures, heating and water systems along with particulars regarding furnishings and décor. Information that was gathered through interviews such as this, supported the restoration to be completed as accurately as possible.
- History
- Albert and William Charles “Bill” Parker are the sons of Sarah Parker (nee Love) and William Parker. Sarah Parker was the daughter of Jesse and Martha Love and grew up in the Love farmhouse located at 1390 Cumberland Road in Burnaby. Sarah and William Parker and their three children (Albert, Bill and Elsie) moved into the Love farmhouse in about 1925, eventually buying it in 1928 following the death of Sarah’s father Jesse Love. Sarah continued to live in the house until after her husband William died and eventually sold the house to her daughter Elsie Hughes and her husband John Hughes in 1966.

- Item consists of a typewritten letter from Sergeant Colin Rhodes Fox of the Royal Canadian Artillery Service while serving overseas during World War II. Colin Fox served in the 13th Canadian Field Regiment, 44th Canadian Field Battery. (The letter may have been transcribed by someone from an original written by Colin. The letter is addressed to "Folks", meaning his parents, Ernest Denby and Jessie (nee Bateman) Fox. Colin is writing from hospital after being wounded while laying communication cable from the Normandy beachhead on June 8, 1944 (two days after D-Day). Colin describes his four gunshot wounds and how he succumbed to them.

Colin Fox served in the 13th Canadian Field Regiment with the 44th and 78th Canadian Field Battery. In his letter, Colin tells of how he is now back with his regiment (after his release from hospital) but has been reasigned to the 78th Canadian Field Battery instead of the 44th as was previous; how many of the fellows in his troop have lost their third stripe and how he hopes that he doesn't lose his since it means a cut in pay; how many of the villages and homes where he is have been destroyed leaving many civilians homeless and the infantry are also having a tough time.

- Item consists of a typewritten letter from Sergeant Colin Rhodes Fox of the Royal Canadian Artillery Service to his aunt Marianne "May" Bateman while serving overseas during World War II. Colin Fox served in the 13th Canadian Field Regiment, 44th Canadian Field Battery. Letter is written stationery with "On Active Service" in the letterhead. In his letter Colin thanks May for her air mail letter and box of chocolates and reflects on a good time that he had attending a party with his friend Frosty and wife and four other couples. Colin tells of how he found a note in a roll of blankets from a girl who offered to be a pen pal, how he shared the note with half of his troop and how he was elected to respond to her. He also tells of how a cable about him returning was home was incorrect, how he received three hundred cigarettes from the Teen Age Veterans (that his cousin Warren Bateman belongs to) and how he saw the movie "Girl Crazy".
