History
Roy Bernard Raymer (1915-1991) is the son of Harvey Connor Raymer (1885-1937) and Bernice Mildred McFarland. The family owned and operated the Oasis Tourist Cabins on Kingsway. The family moved to Minnesota temporarily and then finally settled in Burnaby in 1921. The family bought their property at 2675 Kingsway (later 6111 Kingsway) and started first a roadside stand called "Golden Rule Table Supply" that sold milk, eggs, etc that came from the family's cows, chicken, etc on the property. From the roadside stand the family progressed to a larger building, a restaurant and store complex. Added to this was a "free campground" where visitors could pitch tents and become customers for the store and resturant. The campground eventually became British Columbia's first motel when ten "tourist cabins" were built on the property. Roy and his brother Max Raymer (1917-1935) attended Edmonds East School in the 1920s. By the late 1920s, the restaurant had expanded to include a dance floor section and it became one of the Lower Mainland's favorite night spots. The new complex was renamed as "The Oasis". In the 1930s, a gasoline retailing outlet was added which became one of Greater Vancouver's largest volume outlets. After the death of his brother, Max at age 18 in 1935 and his father, Harvey in 1937, Roy and his mother Bernice ran the business. After the death of his mother, Bernice in 1951, Roy leased the property for revenue. In 1955, Roy married Ingeborg Haacke and lived on the Kingsway acre and raised a family of four children. For a time they operated the property as "the Oasis Donut Drive-In". In 1964, the property was sold and the family moved to Government Road. Roy Bernard Raymer died in 1991.

Photograph of sidewalk, buildings and grounds of New Haven Correctional Centre. Photograph is taken looking from the main building.
History
In 1937 New Haven Correctional Centre was established as the British Columbia Training School on the southeast side of Marine Drive in Burnaby (4250 Marine Drive). Sections of Sussex and Patterson Avenues bordered the estate. Originally, the facility housed nineteen inmates with two staff and was one of the first initiatives in Canada to segregate young adult inmates into a separate institution apart from adults. This was part of the Borstal system that started in England whereby young male offenders between the ages of sixteen and twenty one were trained to earn an honest living. Alterations and additions to the estate took place between December 1937 and October 1939 so that more inmates could be accomodated. Five new cottages were built that could hold up to forty people. Except for the plastering and lighting, all work on the new cottages was done by the inmates. On October 29, 1939, the Lieutenant-Governor Eric Hamber formally opened the New Haven Borstal School. World War II interrupted full development of the intstitution and it was closed in 1941 when the inmates were were conscripted into the army. Between 1941 and 1947 the Deaf and Blind Institute were housed at New Haven. In 1947, the New Haven Borstal School returned to the estate. New additions were added to old buildings and new additional buildings were erected on the site over the years including a warden's house on the east grounds and a barn and gymnasium. In the 1970s an equipment shed was added along with another dormitory and a variety of small sheds and storage buildings. The correctional centre officially closed in March 2001.

History
The Burnaby Lawn Bowling Club began in West Burnaby in 1914. On December 1, 1937, the club amalgamated with the Ladies Central Park Club to create the Burnaby Lawn Bowling Club at Central Park. By that time, the Burnaby Lawn Bowling Club had already won a number of British Columbia Lawn Bowling Association tournaments and trophies. The joint executive of the Men's and Ladies' Burnaby Lawn Bowling Clubs formed the Building Fund and Social Committee in 1945 with the purpose of collecting funds to improve the clubhouse and green. The committee remained active throughout the 1950s and 60s. In 1973, under the new title of South Burnaby Lawn Bowling Club, the constitution and by-laws of the club were established.

Tokio Yamamoto was born May 29, 1923 in Cumberland, BC. to parents Teizo and Matsue (Matsunga) Yamamoto. Tokio was one of nine children born to parents Teizo and Matsue Yamamoto. Tokio and his family were forced into internment during the Second World War. Following the war, the family repatriated to Japan. After returning to Japan, Tokio worked in the Aomori-Ken Region. While living in Japan, Tokio married Yoshino Tamura and the couple had two daughters, Reiko Yamamoto Moizumi and Akemi Yamamoto Jordan. At a young age Yoshino (nee Tamura) Yamamoto learned to make patterns and sew by attending classes at a tailoring school in Aomoir-ken, Japan. In 1952, her husband Tokio Yamamoto bought a sewing machine as a gift. In 1958, Tokio, Yoshino and their two daughters, Reiko and Akemi travelled to Vancouver, British Columbia on the Hikawa-Maru passenger ship. Among Yoshino's possessions was her sewing machine, which was re-assembled when the family moved into their new home in East Vancouver. Yoshino spent many hours sewing and altering clothes for her family, and making cushions, curtains and quilts with her trusty sewing machine. Tokio Yamamoto died in 2012 and Yoshino Yamamoto died in 2016.
