- History
- Overlynn Mansion was built by Charles J. Peter in 1909. Peter was the manager of G.F. & J. Galt Company and he pioneered the development of the Vancouver Heights area in North Burnaby, believing it was one of the most picturesque districts in Greater Vancouver. He developed his own estate with the hope that this would be an incentive to lure buyers to the subdivision. The house remained as the Peter home until 1936, when the estate was sold to the Sisters of Charity of Halifax, a Catholic order which had moved to Vancouver Heights in 1927 to operate a school. The mansion became their convent and new girls' school known as Seton Academy. The mansion's original conservatory was demolished and a two-storey addition was constructed. In 1970 when the school closed, Overlynn was purchased by Action Line Housing Society which developed the senior's development on the property. It was designated by Burnaby Council in 1995 and was the first heritage building in B.C. to have its interior features protected.

- History
- Alfred "Alf" Bingham was born in England in 1892 and moved to Canada in 1912. His first job in Canada was laying track for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (GTPR) from Edmonton to McBride in 1912. His second was in Vancouver at the Rat Portage Mill on False Creek, working on the Resaw machine. He quit after one week due to poor working conditions. After taking part in the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike as a delegate of the Retail and Mailorder Union (A.F.L.) on the Winnipeg Trades and Labour Council, Alfred moved to Burnaby where he and fellow Burnaby residents Angus McLean and Percy Little worked ten-hour days to build a shingle mill on the edge of Burnaby Lake for Simpson & Giberson. George Green, a carpenter and millwright (and author of “The History of Burnaby”), also helped in the construction of the mill. Alfred built his own home from lumber cut from the mill in the Lockdale area on Sherlock Street between Curtis Street and Kitchener Street. On April 10, 1920, Alfred married Mary Jane "Ada" Reynolds. Alfred and Mary Jane often took in foster children during their marriage. Due to her nursing experience, Ada was often called upon to deliver babies in the Burnaby area. The couple also had a dog named Bess. The Binghams were instrumental members of the Army of the Common Good, collecting vegetables and grains from growers in the area and even producing over 125 tons of vegetables from its own gardens to feed children and youth who were suffering from the lack of resources during the Depression. The Army was in operation for ten years and during that time, the members organised the credit union movement of British Columbia and drew up the Credit Union Act through the Vancouver Co-operative Council. They also started co-op stores and the Co-Op Wholesale Society. Alfred was also the Secretary of the Burnaby Housing Committee. In 1946, he became the Secretary of the North Burnaby Labour Progressive Party (LPP). Mary Jane died on August 9, 1969. Alfred died on April 29, 1979.

- Alvin Burtch was a British Columbia Electric Railway conductor who drove for the BCER for 38 years, 30 of those years on the Burnaby Lake Line. He was the driver for the line's final run in 1953, his 37th year of service. Burtch had a daughter named Hazel Cunningham, who grew up in Burnaby and married Friends of the Carousel member Harry Sumner.

- Anne Elizabeth Stokes was born in Misson, BC and raised in Surrey, BC. She married Vancouver Police Department Constable Charles Boyes in 1947, and Major Rolf F. Macey in 1965. Anne and Rolf had two children: son Lane Macey and daughter Naomi Macey. Anne worked as a psychiatric nurse at Essondale Hospital and Director of Volunteer Services at Burnaby General Hospital. She volunteered her time for various clubs, including Save the Children and Dixon House. Anne passed away at Eagle Ridge Manor in Port Moody, BC in 2007.

- History
- Annie Urbanovits Boulanger’s parents emigrated from Hungary to Toronto: Louis in 1925 and Irene in 1930. The couple married in Toronto and later moved to Vancouver. During WWII, Louis worked in the Vancouver Shipyards, followed by Nichols Chemical Company in Barnet for 15 years. While the Urbanovits family lived in Cloverdale, Louis commuted to Kask’s Camp in Barnet until they moved to Burnaby in 1951 to an old farm on Napier Street. Between 1951 and 1956 Annie completed her BA degree, majoring in chemistry and english with a minor in physical education, and obtained her teaching diploma at UBC. She taught for four years in various locations in BC before marrying and moving to Manitoba and Ottawa. She and her husband and five children returned to Burnaby in 1964 to a home on Government Street to be close to family. The couple later had another two children. Annie Boulanger became involved in the community first through her children’s school, initiating and teaching french classes in Seaforth School in 1969, and supporting the development of gymnastics in school and as a municipal program. Her interest in Archives lead to doing oral histories for John Adams, curator of Heritage Village (later Burnaby Village Museum), and for SFU Archives. She became a long time member of the Burnaby Writers’ Club in the 1970s, taking a course in writing non-fiction from Chris Potter. In 1983 Annie Boulanger joined the Burnaby Arts Council, becoming President in 1985. She was involved in lobbying the municipality for better monetary support and facilities for the arts and for the creation of a Municipal Arts Policy. She continued to promote the arts in Burnaby through her appointment to Burnaby’s Visual Arts Advisory Board in 1997, her arts journalism, writing regular book and theatre reviews for the local newspaper, and other activities. She was a member of the Burnaby Centennial Committee and was one of the editors of the book “Burnaby Centennial Anthology”. She is also the author of "A Carousel is Magic: The Saving of Parker # 119".

- History
- In 1959 Dr. William "Bill" Baldwin (d. 1987) and his wife Ruth (d. 2009) bought a cottage and approximately two and a half acres of land on the shores of Deer Lake for $16,000. The cottage and land had been owned by one of Dr. Baldwin’s colleagues at Burnaby Hospital. The couple lived in the cottage with their two young children John (b.1958) and Susan (b.1959) for a few years before deciding to renovate and expand their home. William was close friends with Arthur Erickson, the two having gone to Prince of Wales High School and McGill University together. Ruth decided that they needed a lakeshore home rather than a renovation on their cottage and Arthur Erickson would be the man to design it. Local builder Torstein Kravik completed the house in 1965. The home is considered an early example of Erickson’s design aesthetic, demonstrating his vision of "site, light and cadence." It is thought to be the best example of West Coast contemporary architecture in Burnaby. In 2001, at the age of seventy-eight, Ruth approached the City of Burnaby about buying the property,on the condition that the house be protected and that Ruth could continue to rent the home. The City purchased it and gave it Heritage designation. As of 2010, the Baldwin home and garden is on lease to The Land Conservancy of BC (TLC) to serve as a “guest house.” It is available for lease to local residents and visitors for overnight stays.

- Rose Croucher was born to Ann Eliza "Annie" (b. August 1861, d. 1962) and R. Coucher in January 1895. In 1907, the Croucher family moved to British Columbia. As a student, Rose studied geometrical drawing using Blair’s Canadian Drawing Series workbooks. On on February 21, 1914, Rose married James Oakes Bancroft in Vancouver, BC. Together they had three children: James A. (b. 1916 or 1917), Rosie (date unknown), and George E. (b. August 1927). The Bancroft family were poultry farmers throughout the early 1900s, transporting their farmed eggs from Burnaby to the Hudson’s Bay Company Vancouver using the British Columbia Electric Railway system. Rose Bancroft also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Central Park Poultry Co-op Association in the 1920s until her husband's death in 1930 at the age of 42. In the late thirties and early forties, while James A. Bancroft was stationed in Calgary with the Royal Canadian Air Force, his younger siblings lived together with their mother and grandmother at 1963 21st Avenue in Burnaby. Rosie Bancroft studied French and English history in Social Studies in 1937; her brother George studied the seasons in General Science II in 1942. Rose died in 1965 at the age of 76.

- History
- Bernard Bellinger arrived in Burnaby in 1927 with his parents, Jack and Elizabeth Ellen "Nell" Fraser Bellinger, and four younger siblings: Christine, David, Marion, and James. His youngest brother, Robert, was born in Burnaby. The Bellingers lived at the Old Orchard Auto Court on Kingsway and Willingdon in two small cabins. They later moved to a home on Pearl Avenue in the Royal Oak district. Bernard went to Kingsway West primary school and then Burnaby South high school. While studying to become a pharmacist, he apprenticed in Vancouver, but lived in Burnaby his entire life.

- The Bicycle Advisory Committee was established on June 15, 1992. The purpose of the Bicycle Advisory Committee was to advise Council of policies, programs and projects which increased the safe, convenient and practical use of the bicycle for transportation and recreation in Burnaby. As of 2003, the Bicycle Advisory Committee merged with the Transportation Committee.

- History
- The Board of Works was established circa 1895 in order to provide infrastructure to the rapidly growing population of Burnaby. During 1926 and 1927, the committee was referred to as the Board of Works, Transportation and Industries. Prior to 1926, there was a separate committee called Transportation and Industries which was responsible for this portfolio. In 1928, new committees were formed and the duties associated with transportation and industry was given to the Transportation and Telephone Committee and a Health, Hall and Grounds, Fire and Industries Committee, respectively. From 1933 to 1942, no Board of Works was appointed as the Provincial Commissioner governed Burnaby. When the Board was re-appointed in 1943, it became known as the Board of Works and Waterworks. In 1945, waterworks became a separate committee known as Waterworks, Health and Sanitation. In 1954, the Board of Works reverted to its 1943 name Board of Works and Waterworks for one year. By 1955, Waterworks became a separate committee. The Board of Works disbanded circa 1959.
