It was officially opened on April 10, 1947 at 7502 Cumberland Street (later 7550 Cumberland), on the corner of 17th Avenue. In the fall of 1962 the Centre was amalgamated with Shaughnessy Hospital (Vancouver) and became the George Derby Wing.
