- pharmaceutical tin. Tall, rectangular metal tin with square pull-off lid; painted green with black text and design. The item is a bulk product stocked by a pharmacy. Up until the 1950s, pharmacists provided most prescription medications by creating compounds of bulk products that were given to customers as pills, salves, or tonics. Manufactured by "CHOICE / BOTANIC DRUGS / PRESSED / ... / PARKE, DAVIS & CO. / MANUFACTURING CHEMISTS". Original contents labels are painted red with black text. Original contents labels on lid and front of tin are covered over by adhered paper labels and are unreadable except for "SOL... / ... / ROOT". Soiled paper labels adhered over original contents label on lid and front of tin read "STRAMONIUM LEAVES / SPILENARD ROOT / STRAWBERRY LEAVES" in typewritten black text. Tin has contents.
